Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the 5k run take?

Finishing times vary of course, but our first participants will complete the run in about 20 minutes. Most girls and their buddies will fall between 30-45 minutes, but some take an hour or so! We have designated last place finishers for two reasons: 1. So that none of our girls have to worry about coming in last and 2. To ensure that everyone makes it to the finish line safely! The Woodstock Police will have a car following our last place finishers in case of an emergency.

Are there aid stations available?

Two Aid stations will be available on the course. Each participant should plan to take no more than two servings of water at the first and one serving at the second Aid Station. Runners are also encouraged to bring water bottles along on the course. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line.

Where should I park?

RAFFLE ROAD WILL BE CLOSED AT 7:45 A.M. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY AND ENJOY THE PRE RACE FESTIVITIES Race day will be crowded! We expect around 3,000 people out for the event, so please be prepared for delays. We ask that you arrive EARLY and be patient. Raffel Road between Charles and Banford will be closed at 7:45 a.m. and you will not be able to access the race site. Additionally, Charles and Raffel will be closed at 7 a.m. to ensure quick parking at our lots. Please plan on arriving to WNHS from the South (via Rt 47). Parking Options: Woodstock North High School - This Lot is FULL by 7:15 a.m. South Entrance on Raffel Road (900 parking spots, plus side parking). You will be able to exit this lot and turn SOUTHBOUND ONLY on Raffel Road during the race. Merryman Park - This park has 265 parking spots available This Lot is FULL by 7:30 a.m. You will have to then walk to Raffel Road and take the sidewalk to the High School. There is no way to cut across the field/waterways between Merryman and the high school. NOTE: You will be able to exit this lot and turn SOUTHBOUND ONLY on Raffel Road during the race. There will be NO ACCESS to North entrance of Woodstock North High School. This is where the GOTR Village, race start and finish are located. Raffle Road, between Charles and Banford will be closed at 7:45 a.m. Southbound Raffel Road will be opened at approximately 9:00 a.m.. If the lots fill up earlier than 7:45, the roads will be closed at this time. Marian Central High School (1001 McHenry Ave, Woodstock, IL) -The next closest parking is Marian Central High School. This will be the third lot we fill. We will have shuttle buses transporting you to and from the race site. Look for the GOTR parking signs!

Can I bring my dog or pet?

For safety, all furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event, so please leave all pets at home on 5K day! All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.

Volunteer Registration

This event would not be possible without the help of amazing volunteers who believe in our mission and show up to support our girls. Over 100 volunteers are needed to put on our best 5K yet! Whatever your special skills and talents, we have a role for everyone.

Volunteer Today
OPPORTUNITIES
Set up/Tear Down

This group is responsible for setting up banners, banner on marquee, course signage, water station, tents, tables, etc. Arrival time 4:00 a.m. for set up! Arrival time 9:00 a.m. for tear down

Volunteers

Volunteer Check in is responsible for manning the table for volunteer check-in located in by the entrance to GOTR Village near the HS. Volunteers will receive a packet, a lanyard and designated course marshals will receive orange vests. They will also direct volunteers to their designated station and answer questions regarding volunteer responsibilities. This also includes greeters available to direct welcome participants, answer general questions or find the appropriate point person to address their needs. A FAQ will be available at the volunteer table.

Food and Beverage

Responsible for setting up all donated food (donuts, coffee, fruit, water) at tent near finish line, ushering participants to the table as they finish and serving food. Gloves must be worn and all food must be set up on tables. Volunteers are also responsible for clean up once event is over.

Packet Pickup and Race Day Registration

This group is responsible for manning the tables at the Running Depot pre-race day and at the Registration tables on race day at Woodstock North High School. They will receive a database of registrants with t-shirt size.

Logistics

Course Marshals should keep participants headed in the right direction, look out for anyone in distress and allow cars heading in and out of driveways in neighborhood to come and go. This is not ideal, but the city has asked that we allow cars to enter and exit when possible. The safety of the girls is our number one concern.

Running Buddy for a GOTR Girl

Girls will complete the 5K with an adult of their parents choosing. (This does NOT have to be the parent) From time to time, we need a someone kind from our community to be a Running Buddy for one of our girls. Running Buddies will be background checked and should try to meet their GOTR girl during the team's practice 5K (usually after school during the first week of May).
