How to Become a GOTR Site

While Girls on the Run provides almost everything needed to run the program, some requirements to become a site are:

Provide a Site Liaison

The Site Liaison’s role includes assuring the smooth implementation of the program by securing appropriate training space and serving as a link between coaches, participants and parents.

Provide a safe, dedicated space for running.

This is essential. It does not have to be a track. A field is fine. However, there is a need to measure off part of the area for occasions when lessons require running a certain distance, e.g. 1 mile, 5K, etc.

Provide a rainy day site

Indoor, private, a gym reserved for GOTR® and NOT in conflict with other programs.

Choose two days a week

For meeting one hour each lesson. Provide two or three coaches to be trained by GOTR. Coaches must be female adults. In some cases, GOTR is able to assist in finding, or provide, volunteer coaches.

Group Size

We prefer a minimum of 10 girls and limit each group to a maximum of 15 girls. Because much of our curriculum is related to team building and group dynamics, fewer than 10 girls may make it difficult to provide the experience we want to offer to the girls. More than 15 girls make it difficult to establish the group rapport and the depth of community we are seeking.

It is possible to have more than 1 team per site.

Timing and Length of Session

Our McHenry County program hosts a spring season which runs 10 weeks starting in mid-March and runs through the the first weekend in June. The 5K is the first Sunday in June. To begin a session at your site in the spring, planning should begin in late fall and should be finalized no later than mid-January.

Our KeKalb County program runs in the fall.
